pcd milling inserts R/L590-1105H-PS2-NL-CD10

R/L590 pcd milling inserts are specially designed to fit into light weight milling cutters for high speed machining of aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. Basically, these inserts are meant to provide accurate surface finish and close tolerances. A wiper feature is also included to ensure a superior surface finish even while milling at a relatively high feed rate without any burr formation. Thus, production time is reduced and costly delays are eliminated.

R/L590 pcd milling insert may be used for general face milling, face milling to mirror finish, and demanding intermittent machining in the automotive, aerospace, power generation, ship building and die and mold casting industries. Here is a brief outline of the features and benefits of this outstanding polycrystalline diamond pcd milling inserts.

Specifications and Features
Sandvik R/L590-1105H-PS2-NL pcd milling insert is designed to be used for light high speed machining, so it has the following dimensions and specifications. The cutting edge T-land length is about 2.44 mm, thickness is 5 mm, while the width are 13.13mm and 11.5 mm respectively. For this R/L590 insert, both right hand and left hand cutting directions are available for the CD10 grade. With a single cutting edge that has an effective length of 3 mm, this insert may be used to achieve a maximum cutting depth of 2 mm.

Although it is a diamond-shaped pcd insert, the angle at the cutting edge is 90 degrees, but the chamfer angle at the nose radius and radius length are 45 degrees and 0.25 mm respectively. The PS corner geometry is a unique shape that has been created to prevent the formation of burrs on the workpiece. The positive rake angle of 20 degrees is ideal for light finishing operations. This insert has a 200 mm wiper radius and wiper edge length of 2.2 mm which permits higher cutting speeds and better surface finish than most carbide cutting inserts. That is why it may be used in milling cutters that run at a high speed of 20800 rpm.

Recommended cutting data for each milling operation with this insert varies depending on the type of workpiece material being cut. For instance, for non-cast aluminum alloy, the cutting speed should be between 1000 and 8000 m/min but the insert manufacturer's recommended speed is 4000 m/min. Feed rate should also be between 0.15 and 0.3 mm/tooth (0.15 mm/tooth is recommended). The same cutting data is recommended for machining aluminum castings, for components that have silicon content of 13 to 22 percent, and those that have up to 99 percent aluminum.

Compatible Milling Devices
Some of the compatible milling cutters that the Sandvik R/L590 pcd milling inserts can fit into include RA590 – 203R6 - 11M, RA590 – 152R38S - 11M, RA590 – 152R38A - 11M, RA590 – 127R38S - 11M, RA590 – 127R38A - 11M, RA590 – 102R38S - 11M, RA590 – 102R38A – 11M, RA590 – 076R25S – 11M, RA590 – 076R25A – 11M, RA590 – 063R19S – 11M, RA590 – 051R19S – 11M, R590 – 080Q27A – 11M, R590 – 063Q22S – 11M, R590 - 063C5 – 11M, R590 – 040C4 – 11M.

It is important to note that these are milling cutters designed by Sandvik Coromant. But this pcd milling cutter may also be used along with other compatible milling cutters designed by other reputable milling cutter manufacturers. Such compatible milling tools should be made of either aluminum or steel and they should have insert seats that can accomodate positive diamond shaped inserts that have the same specifications as this insert.

Application Areas
Sandvik R/L590 pcd milling insert is an excellent choice for the top face milling of aluminum cylinder heads in the automobile industry. With a compatible finish milling cutter, this pcd insert will permit high speed milling and provide a high quality surface finish of 2 nanometers, with a cutting speed of between 1,000 to 4,500 m/min, a feed rate of between 0.05 and 0.20 mm/tooth, and a cutting depth of 0.3 to 2.0 mm.

Other automotive component parts that can be machined with this insert include: the valve stem guide holes and seat surfaces, seat holes, cam bearing housing, valve spring seats, valve bucket holes, gasket and boss faces, datum faces, cylinder block top and bottom faces, crank case bearing journal bottom face, crank case bearing cap face, center journal thrust face, starter motor mounting hole, and transmission support face. Machining firms may use this milling insert in both aluminum and light steel milling cutters on CNC machines.

Conclusion
R/L590 pcd milling insert provides great value for its price because it allows for high speed machining of virtually all aluminum based components. Hence, machining firms can use it to increase productivity and maximize the use of their machines thereby achieving more economical and profitable production processes.
